She was drowning, she knew it. This had happened before, or maybe it happened in a dream? She couldn't remember. The familiar tugs and pulls of the water current, the way her lungs struggled and begged for air, the way her body fought to rise above the water surface.
But the strange thing was that she felt a certain calmness, like it didn't bother her that she just might die in a few seconds. She saw people rushing towards the edge of the water, their hands reaching out to her, splashing and searching for a grip to pull her out. She could feel their anxiety, their fear. "Tracy!" they called. But beneath water, she could hear only loud muffled sounds. Tracy could feel the water temperature around her dropping, or was it just her body temperature that was decreasing because she was dying soon?
